Hi all, a local electrician has installed a bulkhead light, the wires go in through holes in the fitting, there is no "gland" as we have on other fittings, just 2 small open holes through which the cables pass, I have queried this as being a way for insects and potentially moisture to enter the fitting, also the coloured inner parts of the wires are exposed and the copper of the earth wire is visible. I clean around the fitting with a brush on a metal handle (as most broom handles are these days).
The electrician says its fine, and I am being unreasonable to query the installation and I should get a different brush to dust with.
Am I being unreasonable?

Steve I think you need a real electrician and no your not being unreasonable. For your info they make what we call duct seal to seal up holes. Good luck my friend

At the very least, why didn't he butt the light up to the conduit and trunking and drill the holes where the cables came out of the conduit/trunking? The right hand hole is no where near the trunking!

Exposed single insulation is a C2 on a condition report, so for that reason alone it is not satisfactory.

A pretty sloppy job, in my opinion, IF it had been installed with all new materials. If that were te case you could at least cut the wiring and the trunking

It looks really sloppy to me and not something I would do. It looks as though he has made the best use of existing cable and trunking (it's dirty) which isn't cut to the right length. But it wouldn't have cost a lot more than a couple of quid to replace it with new and ensure a good fit with an additional drop or two of white sealant. He could at least have pointed the issue out to you and given you that option. Some people have low standards and some people have high standards. It's the luck of the draw. But if you're not happy with it you should go to another electrician, tell them what you want and have them deliver your specific requirements. You're the one paying the bill.
