Now I'm not fully qualified yet, but getting there and I'm doing a bit of work at my gals place on Saturday..

I'm simply extending the ring main by 2 double sockets because we're moving the TV somewhere different to be mounted on the wall, so I wanted everything to be hidden by the TV itself.
I'm also moving the aerial point to the same place, shock horror.
Practically, it's a pretty easy job that should make no mess whatsoever because it's a top floor flat and I can get in the loft..

Anyway, I think I was half asleep at college the other week when my tutor was talking about work that can be done without needing to be signed off again.. (maybe I'm completely wrong here)..
Something about extending existing circuits like lighting and maybe power.

I can do all the testing again i.e. end to end, L1 L2, insulation resistance..

I was just after knowing what I have to do to have it 100% legit as this place is my girlfriends pride and joy, so I've got absolutely no plans to do anything other than spot on.

Hiya mate, sounds fairly straight forward, its not notifiable but a minor works still has to be issued for the work, if you do all the tests use a generic form:D

Do you know all about notifying work? Its a flippin minefield! Im guessing your not registered with a scheme provider (NIC Napit Elecsa etc) yet?

As this work is notifiable your only option is to let building control (at your local council) know that you are doing this work and they will arrange a visit before and afterwards to check the work over. Oh and charge a three figure sum just for good measure. Yes, seriously.

Welcome to the wonders of part P!

(not yet registered myself so hopefully this is all correct!)

Sorry bud but how is adding sockets to an existing circuit notifiable work? as long as its not in the garden or kitchen its not notifiable;)

Yeah, the ring is on an RCD and the job is easy so I have no quarms there..

So after that just end to end, L1 L2 and insulation resistance put on a legit form? :)

Also, the TV is only 26", so I don't think I need to apply for planning permission too. :D

No i believe you can sign the minor works off as its not notifiable, just do all the tests, make sure your addition is rcd protected, and the bonding is in place and up to date and away to go:)
This is domestic so still covered by part P, ok, it's not notifiable, you're right, but you have to be, by law, part p registered to sign off your own work unless you pay building control to verify it.
Colin, do you work for anyone yet or are you jst at college? If you're working for a firm can you not ask them to certify the job or you?

Ive done the C&G 2393 Building Regs For Electricians last year, and if my memory serves me right yes the extention to this circuit is not in a special location and is non-notifiable, and also i dont even think you have to tell the local authority becasue that is what the term "non-notifiable" means, i.e you dont notify the local authority, this work is i think what DIY'ers undertake.

Hello Colin. You also need to test Earth Fault Loop (Zs and Ze) to ensure that disconnection times are met. And test the RCD trip times and functional test the RCD (just press the test button:)) to ensure the RCD operates correctly under fault condtions.

And confirm voltage drop is not excessive.

see if you can borrow a multi function tester, do your dead tests first then your live ones filling in the details in a copy of the minor works cert from your red regs book. should be a good little job to confirm some of what you've been learning at college. non-notifiable under part p, no need to inform local authority building control
