Now I'm not fully qualified yet, but getting there and I'm doing a bit of work at my gals place on Saturday..

I'm simply extending the ring main by 2 double sockets because we're moving the TV somewhere different to be mounted on the wall, so I wanted everything to be hidden by the TV itself.
I'm also moving the aerial point to the same place, shock horror.
Practically, it's a pretty easy job that should make no mess whatsoever because it's a top floor flat and I can get in the loft..

Anyway, I think I was half asleep at college the other week when my tutor was talking about work that can be done without needing to be signed off again.. (maybe I'm completely wrong here)..
Something about extending existing circuits like lighting and maybe power.

I can do all the testing again i.e. end to end, L1 L2, insulation resistance..

I was just after knowing what I have to do to have it 100% legit as this place is my girlfriends pride and joy, so I've got absolutely no plans to do anything other than spot on.

Slightly off topic,

If you are chasing the wall out for the areial and power.
why don't you chase the wall for all the other services the TV has (if it has any others) HDMI, PC and Scart

It will then future proof the installation

Richard

Don't forget to keep 230V cables segregated though! ;)

this work is i think what DIY'ers undertake.
NO!!!
DIY can change a light fitting, socket or switch front. Wiring HAS to be done by an approved person. One example recently.....I had to extend a ring, the previous "builder" had seen fit to add 3 double sockets, unfused as piggyback spurs in 1mm twin and earth. The whole point of part p is to stop this.
Apparently.

Luckily I'm just dealing with a nice big void in a plasterboard wall which I can just about get to from the loft.

Job done...

To be honest, if you are an electrician, and competant, then you shouldn't be worried about notifying or not (gets ready for the flaming:rolleyes:). If you aren't competant, you shouldn't be doing it, simple as that. Check your work, and stick a loop tester on it, and you'll be fine;) Its your house mate, do what you want.

Nice tree by the way:)

the real crux here as far part p or not, is in the detail of the regs..

as previously mentioned changing sockets fronts and "equipment" can be done diy (not special locations)
so long as it
"DOES NOT INCLUDE THE PROVISION OF ANY NEW FIXED CABLING"

What is allowed:
"ADDING SOCKET-OUTLETS AND FUSED SPURS TO AN EXISTING RING OR RADIAL CIRCUIT"
ie. simply chopping into an existing circuit.. (no extra cable)

So by that rationale "extending" a ring ie adding more cable, very much DOES come under part P, regardless of special location or not and is outside the scope of DIY.
