Extending cables in consumer unit

Just after a general consensus.

Do you guys extend cables for the purpose of neatness, even though its a potential weak point or do you accept a shorter cable and accept that its a not as neat?

Only extend them if they aren't long enough, adding joints for the sake of making it look pretty is foolish. Every joint is a potential point of failure.

As DS says. Also connect up any shorter cables in the DB first and configure the rest of the MCBs around it if possible.

if i need to extend cables i would rather use din rail and connectors, at least with an acessable screw connection it can be maintained.

badly crimped cables cause heat (i would crimp small cables but larger cables i would rather not)

Crimp using ferrule and heat shrink, it's the most discrete and reliable method for me. Small medium and large wires same principal, makes no difference.

Inline connectors mate ! Push in , pull hard to check good connection ,extend to mcb , nice neat job , no worries .

It doesn't matter what one uses to extend cables because the house will have already burnt down from the crappy terminations in the CU.
