Hi, I would like your advice please.

I have purchased a LED External light for the front of my house along with a PIR sensor. I would like to connect this via the PIR sensor as well as have a manual over ride where I can either have the light on/off. So if I have 2 switches, one for the pir sensor and the other for the manual on/off.

Is this possible? if so please let me know how to configure so I can explain this to my Electrician.

Also, for the rear, I have 3 up/down lights that I would like to be setup the same way as the front where I have option to have pir or manual on/off.

Thanks

the technology of these PIRs is the same as it was 15 years ago. most PIRs have 4 terminals. i'm not sure why you have 2 L terminals. i'm sure your brother can suss it out for you.

Thanks telectrix:

1) I know most have 4 terminals, that's why I came here to ask for help.
2) I don't know why this unit has 2 L terminals, that's why I came here to ask for for help.
3) My brother can't suss it it out either, that's why I came here asking for help.

I guess we're in the same boat. But thanks anyway.

I have a setup with: two Smiths SL077 PIRs, two Lights, and the ability to switch the lights on/off (over-riding the PIR) from a light switch in the hall. I want to replace one of the SL077's but I see that they have 5 terminals inside (labelled L, SL, E, L, and N).

Two questions, please:
1) Please could you recommend a good 5 terminal PIR as a replacement?
2) If I buy a 4 terminal PIR, and given the wiring is already there for a 5-terminal setup, is it possible to wire the 4 terminal PIR so that it acts as a PIR and can be over-ridden by the switch in the house?

Thanks
Are you certain of the labelling of the terminals; could it be N, SL, E, L, N?
Check continuity between the far left and far right terminals on the working disconnected light, if they are continuous then probably as stated and for a 4 wire light can use the N terminal for both light and supply.
Other than that if your brother could help you identify which cable does what on the old light then you should be able to identify the purpose of each cable and so wire a 4 terminal correctly.

Richard - sorry for not getting back sooner - been away for a couple of days.

I double checked and you're right. What an idiot I am. :)

I would assume that the two N's are common, and so could go in the same N connector of the 4-connector PIR, but I'm not going to chance it. I'm now going to call in a sparks.

Thanks for the help. Much appeciated.

Gary

That will work fine as long as the Pirs use relay switching, some don't.
