Has anyone installed a extract fan that is wired to a stat that if it gets too hot in the room that this will kick in to draw the heat out of the room. this is for a computer hub room in a house

If their is alot of units in this room an extract system wont do anything as its just dragging warm air from the building and not effectively cooling anything down, if you have servers etc in there then in summer they will fry.A chiller unit may be required.

have been told from builders that the room has a void and there is airflow at bottom of room but person who is putting system in has requested a fan at top of room

Have done it in a commercial/industrial enviroment but a computer hub in a house should not kick ouy that amount of heat?

Normally in a commercial/industrial enviroment an Air con unit would be fitted.

Its not too complicated just run the SW for the fan through the stat but connect it opposite way round that you would a combi boiler, so when the temp rises it closes the contacts as oppose to a boiler stat that opens the contacts. You can work this out with continuity testers on the stat before you wire it so when you turn the stat below room temp it will close the contacts.

thanks darkwood but am crap when it comes to controls plus never done a boiler what is sw and would temp stat need to be 240 v
Wire live, neutral and earth to stat and connect as shown on instructions with stat, then take Sw (switchwire) neutral and earth to fan, you need to get a stat with N/O and N/C terminals (normally open and normally closed) that is 230v rated your electrical wholesaler will help you their.
The switch wire goes on either the N/C or N/O terminal if the fan goes off when the room gets warm then swap it to the other terminal.
This is very basic stuff but what worries me is you didnt know what the abbr' SW was, It may be you just on the bottom rung of a long ladder which is where we all started and im happy to help im just worried that this is a DIY job and lack of knowledge of electrical and regulations is a dangerous thing.
If you are unsure before you commit yourself just run it off a flex and plug top with 3amp fuse to start with so you can figure it out.

Just checked your profile my apologies you are in the electrical game you just mislead me a bit, but hoped my post helped and will be happy to help anytime i do recall my first controls which when youve done it once you will think OMG that was simple and never look back.

I would work out the room volume and fit a fan of a suitable size to give at least 3 - 4 air changes an hour, a lot of these 4" fans don't move enough air to do this in most rooms

the power coming in do i go through the stat then to fan or other way around

Through the stat then onto the fan
