How can you correctly measure the active power when you have harmonics, non-linear load, less than unitary power factor, a motor that could have up to a few hundreds kilowatts?
Or at least the active power component current (the fundamental).

I'm looking for one or a few practical solutions. Can you do that with a wave analyzer?

Thanks.

The only way you can measure the likes of harmonics and wattless current etc, flowing in a cable/installation is by means of a half decent analyser. The cheaper units will just give you percentages, whereas the better (usually more costly) analysers will do the various calculations for you.

What are you trying to do or find out?? Is this a course question or an actual problem your having with an installation you're involved on??

It does have the ring of a course question.

If you look on Test Meters site (one of our spongers) you will find what you need. Some of the gear can be hired, otherwise you’d better have deep pockets.
