Hi
i have installed a replacement extractor fan in my bathroom. It is a timed Humidity fan. The wiring from the fan requires a Live, Sw Live and Neutral.

I was going to link it to my light fitting but this doesn't have a Neutral/Earth wire ( whole upstairs lighting is due for renewal). So can i connect my extractor fan Neutral off of my New shower Earth ?

My Extractor.

Thanks, Stu.

Ps my Mentor has just gone on holiday and my regs book is in his van (which the dog ate)

Stu your funny  I was going to leave this thread until this evening but you have beat me to it.

The above is not Pennychews install, it is from the open forum just about to be moved into the DIY section.

Point out what is wrong with this picture and the way the OP wants to install it? Btw I have already told the OP via PM not to turn it on and to get an electrician in.

Come on Paul dont try and trick me, the main fault here is quite clearly that the timer is set to run for only 10mins......

Everyone knows a decent post night out brad pitt needs at least 20-30mins of full extraction to clear the room

A question that was asked to me via pm was:-

"If the fan has not got a terminal for an earth, why do I need to give it one?"

Nice little question for you lot, basic but vital.

Even though that fan is class 2 (double insulated) the fan could be changed to a metal one at a later date that would require the cpc.

I also always had it in my head that a cpc would protect the cable if it was cut or knicked but thinking about it with a 3c+e anything that shorts out two conductors will trip the ocpd anyway so not sure it's entirely relevant.

Basic but vital.....

What is a CPC? It is a "Circuit" "Protective" "Conductor"..... What does it "protect"???? The circuit aka the cable! Every cable above 50V needs a CPC throughout its length regardless of what it is feeding (class I or II).

Does it?

Btw I'm being an arse.
