As per most manufactures the fuse spur should be before the light switch , then a 3 poke isolator before the fan , meaning that you can work on the fan with the light supply isolated , will post the piccy when I can figure how to attach a pic from my phone

Don't building regs now call for a 2 speed (permenantly on) fan for domestic premises? It's probably a lot more detailed than that but from a sparkies perspective you only require a permenant live and neutral any way so only 1 live cable to worry about fusing.

What does the manufacturers instructions say?? If they only mention a FCU unit and nothing towards the run-on facility that's what you install/provide. All these scam providers can say whatever they want too, at the end of the day you follow BS7671 and manufacturer's recommendations...

not sure if its become building regs but trickle fans with boost appear to be standard now so a switch live also required

Sorry to sound like a dunce... I was wondering if someone could put a drawing of their description, as I am trying to understand this from words because of my newness.

As they say, "a picture speaks..."

Hi
It's not a Myth page 65 electricians guide to building regs. should have it's own means of isolation, triple pole if fan has overrun facility
Regards
Ben

with regards to Elecsa saying about fusespurs for fans,, i think that what they were getting at was that it is a part of the new regs that all equipment be installed to manufacturers instructions.

I seem to remember them going on about tightening all terminals with a torque screwdriver too

I thought under Part P a bathroom extractor fan installed in a bathroom without windows must have a triple pole isolator to isolate for maintenance without turning the light off?

Thats exactly what we got taught in college too simon

Where you have two independently fused supplies to one piece of equipment and then need to label the supply to indicate there is more than one means of isolation and a customer will find the fan has stopped and ignore the label and get a shock.

is'nt that what the triple pole isolator do's Mr Burns (one means of isolation)?
and should the fan not be extra low voltage,
