Good day,

At a house and theres a lady who has a hallway light, and a landing light.
She has:
downstairs - a 3 gang switch - hallway light, outdoor light, and landing light.
upstairs - 1 gang switch - landing light.

She wants to be able to switch the hall light from upstairs. This house is just finished being fully decorated.
Without running a three core between these switches is there a way to make that happen, as in to not have a load of making good left afterwards?
Is it feasible/do able to alter the wiring, so that the upstairs switch would become 2 gang, and switch landing and hallway by meaning the downstairs can no longer switch the landing light.

Been a while,

Thanks

Won't she still want to switch the landing light from downstairs? You may be able to pull a new cable through the existing route if you can get access.
not without some extensive making good, damage to the floor, walls etc Mrs housewife have decided what she wanted before all the decorating was done, not sure She would be to pleased with all the repairs to Her nice house. Still a nice thought, I personally think access to the original cable route would very hard to get.

The least amount of cores needed for 2x2 ways on the landing.it must have 2 pairs of strappers, the chances are you will have at most a 3-core between landing and Hall

The switched feed to the Hall light could be connected to the one leg of the landing 3 core to have the both lights on together, however, be careful that both lights are fed by the same mcb
There are also wireless switches available that could do the job

If you can get from the outside light,to the hall 3-gang any easier, you could come from the eaves to the outside light,in conduit, and hard-wire the shared neutral and strapper problem, right out...

Alternatively,it's RC fun,or a return for the decorator...;)

Thank you for the many replies.
Yes. Many alterations have been made... 18 down lights cabled in a ceiling only for client to decide they want 2 x chandeliers instead.
All pull cords deemed 'too clicky' and quieter ones had to be sourced which was fun pulling every variety of pullcord in the wholesaler. Plus loads of other after thoughts...too little too late for most of it.
Pain in the bottom one might say.

Has anyone used the ' Philips hue' set up ?
Is this a good method for obtaining lighting control for the hall and landing light ?
