failing shower switches

Had a phone call from someone whose cord pull shower switch had failed 3 times in a year (which they then replaced) and no other problems other than it failing again.
Not seen it yet, but thinking they were buying cheap poor quality switches (possibly under rated), poor/loose terminations maybe overcrowded overly bent wires causing overheating. Am i forgetting anything obvious?

Check if they have a sufficient extract fan, lots of steam & moisture in air wont be helping the switch much

prob 6mm cable which had a 7.5kw shower up until fairly recently and was changed to 8.5kw+

dust and debris in the loft coming through the cable hole onto the switch? had that a couple of times

Another victory for the wall switch :lol:

Use a decent pull cord (although that comment is a oxymoron) like crabtree and make sure it's connected firmly

I have had this on a couple of occasions mainly on the neutral side & each time connections were loose

nuetral has return path of current hence holding higher load , loose connections fitted amateurish = burned out pullcord

mmm I think my shower switch is a crabtree its doing well 15 years old or maybe older

recently replaced 1 of those at my mate's gaff. that was 15 years old exactly. so be prepared. LOL. :bigear:

Click do one that has 2 screws per terminal can get them nice and tight!
