Had a phone call from someone whose cord pull shower switch had failed 3 times in a year (which they then replaced) and no other problems other than it failing again.
Not seen it yet, but thinking they were buying cheap poor quality switches (possibly under rated), poor/loose terminations maybe overcrowded overly bent wires causing overheating. Am i forgetting anything obvious?

When you say failed is it just not working or won't the chord pull? Because I had three volex pull switches in a row faulty straight out the box, well I say they were faulty they weren't until I fitted them, it was a flat roof so not much room in the box and it was tight but I didn't think it was overly tight, they switched fine until I screwed them back and then they wouldn't switch, and even when I unscrewed it they wouldn't switch again it was bizarre. Just down to the sheer lack of room for the connections.

Shower switches are the one of the banes of our job... we have the Anti-TARDIS of boxes that look roomy from the outside but cant fit jack..... in them, what happens alot is when you offer the cover up with alot of bending and movement of the cable cores due to their size and stiffness the movement is transfered to the terminal joint and thus can create a loose connection from where their was a good tight termination before you pushed it all home.

Cheaper switches also can under the pressure of a tensioned terminationed -move the internal components slightly meaning poor switch contacts.... the issue is a market driven by compact design against the requirements for adequate room for termination and guess which side is winning...... although knowing the above can help if you pre-shape the coonductors to where you want them to fold in then excess pressure dosn't corrupt the switching mechanism or loosen the termination so easy.... showers are really on for more than 20mins and even if the switch was a few amps under-rated it shouldn't burn out the cable as bad as you'll probably come across and if rating was the case it will effect both conductors not just one which is the normal find.
