Has anyone come across or used any of the replica / fake power tools? I've stumbled across a few on ebay, mainly Makita but also seen Dewalt.

Makita Impact 18v
Makita Angle Grinder
Makita SDS
Makita Recip Saw

A few years ago before I upgraded my power tools to 18v Li-on I got some replica batteries for my old kit, and never had any problems with it. Have stuck with genuine batteries and tools since as I don't want a dodgy battery damaging the tools, but could a replica tool damage a battery?

I have heard of dead compatible batteries within months so it's obvious the quality isn't there. I have heard of small fires and ruptures too, although less often.

I wouldn't buy knock off anything. My Milwaukee tools and batteries have performed for years so buying genuine has proved me well.

I bought cheap copy dewalt battery’s to fit my dated drill.... didn’t last long, ended up buying my mates old kit as he’s a joiner. Now got spare drill, jigsaw, circular saw, torch, Hoover.... all got the same battery, and got 6 of them.
