Hello all,
Just wondering if my en-suite is wired correctly .
There is a timed extraction fan and bathroom light in there .
There is an isolator switch outside the door. When you turn off the isolator the light stops working too.
Is this correct?
Should the isolator not stop the fan only and allow the light to still come on?
Any help appreciated

I don’t know the Irish building regulations, but this is extracted from the Electricians Guide to the Building Regs. I would imagine the applicable Irish regs are similar, Scottish building standards certainly have a similar statement.

“An extractor fan supplied from a lighting circuit for a bathroom without a window should have its own means of isolation; if it does not, the replacement or maintenance of the fan would have to be carried out in the dark.”

No window in the room, the fan needs to be isolated independently from the light. With a window do what you like ?

Changing the operation so the fan isolator doesn’t isolate the light is possible but without knowing how it is wired now I would be guessing on the safest and easiest way of doing it.

Thanks for reply, that makes sense. My en-suite has no windows so I think perhaps it’s not set up correctly.
The isolator has a permanent live going to the fan, then two twin and earths ( one going to light and fan and then one to the shaver outlet)
