it's irrelevant. look at his screen name. just because the onionsellers whopped harold in 1066. it's a cover up because the normans weren't really french. they were monty python in disguise.

The best thing to learn from this is not to fit these awful items. Hardly any suck and transformers to go wrong!
I agree. Dreadful things. My dead cat has more sucking power than these crappy things, and the lamp is a 'special' one that according to the instruction must not be replaced with anything else, so will not match the colour of any other lights in the room, and flickers like hell. I wouldn't wee on one of these things if it was on fire (after safe isolation, of course!).

Hi people sorry for my late reply. I've checked the instructions and the unit must work together ie the light can't work independently of the fan. The kitchen and bathroom fitter I'm subbing for sans I'm being a bit ---- and "all his other sparks just wire them independently, I'm just being ---- because I'm new" well rules is rules right? It may be a safety reason and probably is as to why the manufacturer says to keep them together. It's a manrose showerlite (halogen) I feel I should stick to my guns but would like other people's take on the matter. He's saying if I won't do it he will. Thanks for all your replies so far.

well, make sure it's noted on your cert. that it's wired correctly in accordance with BS7671 ( and by default, also manufacturers instructions) and you take no responsibility for any results from alterations by idiots. does this kitchen fitter expect you to tell him how to cobble kitchen units together? tell him to stick with what he knows about ( keep his mind occupied for a few seconds).

Yeah that's what I will do. Spoke to manrose technical guys and they have confirmed the main reason is the cooling effect the fan has is vital to the plastic around the halogen. I'm a full time firefighter so will not be installing it any other way. Thanks again for your help guys.

Just to let you guys know. After contacting Manrose they advised that the reason they stipulate that the lumens transformer is wired from the fan unit and not desperately from the junction box is due to the fans cooling effect in the halogen bulb which on its own is capable of mealtime the plastic fitting and could start a fire. They also advised as you would expect that the cooler LED version can be wired separately. So that's my solution and everyone is happy. Thanks for all your replies. This forum is a great tool.

LED version can be wired separately.

maybe so, but what if the client replaces LED with a 50watt halogen at a later date?

Don't wander from the manufacturers instructions, and if you are not comfortable with the appliance, for whatever reason, then don't fit it. It's always your call.
