just wondered if any of you have any ideas, i am going to look at installing a fan in a cafe toilet,

now i know from my head there is no walls leading to outside the building as the wc is in the middle of building

there is derilict upper floor, could i just let the fan blow up that direction, and how would this kind attatch to ceiling , is there a flange???

any pointers any useful tips be great, ive installed the normally bathroom ones... but thats it.

and if i remember right it requires a live , a switched live and neutral and earth....

be very careful of penetrating the ceiling to expel poo smell...!! you will be effectively creating a open gap for FIRE to travel through..!

you will find that in most circumstances the extraction fan will need to expel outside regardless of steam or no steam..!

what way is there to get round this durham, breaking fire barrier

i need to cut hole in ceiling??

If the upper floor is derelict then you could install a duct across the upper floor or lift a few boards and install a flat duct between the joists to an outside wall. For fire protection use some intumescent pillows around the ducting. Plenty of things for fire stopping here Intumescent strips | smoke seals | fire mastic so you may be able to find a solution

also, the light in question is run off a pir, is there any problems me running fan off light which is operated by pir sensor
So long as you use the switched line from the PIR to the light as the switched line and run a permanent line in to the fan as well the fan should run OK when switched by the PIR. Once the PIR switches off the the fan will run on the timer, so you may want to reduce the overrun time if the PIR stays on for ages after someone has left. Possibly you could use the PIR delay as the overrun timer but this would mean the light would be on at the same time.

For fire protection if you are penetrating a fire compartment then you need to have the duct capable of maintaining fire protection for half the time required for the existing fire barrier.
If fire protection closes off the duct in a fire the protection only needs to be at the penetration, not along the whole length.
