How far is this cupboard from the shower / bath? ie. what zone is it in?
I'd think they'd be okay as long as there RCD protected and outside the zones?
Its a small bathroom the cuboard is within 600mm from shower. As fan switch would not be used often and is all rcd protected would you pass it on pir, The ufh controls is in same location would you move outside?Would you count the cupboard as a zone as i have seen a fuseboard in a bathroom cupboard (council).

This was the point of my previous post about airing cupboards. !
We allow switchgear in an airing cupboard ie immersion heater switch.
So the assumption is that it's outside the zones regardless.
However....
When is a cupboard not a cupboard?
Is it when there's a hot water cylinder in it ?
How much safer is a wall mounted cabinet than an airing cupboard.??
and more importantly where does it fall within zones !

Logic will dictate most of the answers. I'm just playing devils advocate....!

The location, is limited by walls, ceilings, floor and fixed partions (i.e. a wall without a door).
It would depend on the construction of the cupboard whether the inside was considered outside of the location.
The inside of a bathroom cabinet fixed to a wall would not be considered outside of the location, whereas the inside of a cupboard constructed out of brick or studwork and plasterboard (or similar) would be considered outside of the location.

As already mentioned if it wasnt allowed then immersion heaters etc wouldnt be acceptable in airing cupboards, its a cupboard its usually closed the items are not switched on and off in order to use the bathroom they are normally only accessed for testing and isolation purposes, so really cant see an issue, even if backed onto by shower, it will have a dividing stud wall of some nature which in my mind would limit the field of zoning to the stud wall.

what if it was made only accessible with a tool? :smoking:
I would not consider such a cupboard as being outside of the location.
The inside of a cupboard with walls and a door, is considered as being outside of the location. The door doesn't require a lock, or have to be only accessible by use of a tool.
The space under a bath or shower, is considered to be outside of the zones, if it is only accessible by use of a tool. However it is not considered to be outside of the location.
It would be up to the individual to decide whether they considered it to be outside of the zones.
