This electrician job is going for grabs, please don't post contact details in this area of the forum. Use the forum messaging system instead.
I apologise if the post has offended anyone on either side of the gender gap, but I need to find someone and figured this a good place to try.

I'm not offended.
My post was more to point out that there may be issues for you as a potential employer by incorrectly specifying a Female only without very good reasons.

I've indirectly worked for Reputable National Retailers and can't think of a reason to specify Female only for electrical work.

On a personal note, I'm more likely to be affected by Ageism issues than Genderism.

I think the concern is for the OP and his client staying on the right side of the law rather than being sensitive.

Can you imagine if a company ran an ad asking for male only applicants, even in a male dominated industry such as ours ? Complaints would come in faster than a greased up whippet.
Must admit that it wouldn't have occurred to me to grease a whippet! :D

Lady on a previous course to me involved in property management was in the process of setting up an all female company of Electricians in central London.

Perhaps off topic but well done to her.

Please keep the thread on topic now people.

Im trying to avoid closing the thread as somebody could end up with a nice contact out of this and not everybody knows how to pm, so them replying gives us a chance to direct them etc

Thanks though mate that wasn't a dig at you per se.

Cheers for the replies guys. I would be more than happy to propose any other candidates to the client, but to be frank I don't want to waste the time. This is a bit frustrating as I cant say too much without compromising the contract. I have to admit I also felt a bit uncomfortable asking the question, but there you go!
GMES thanks for passing it on.

I am a female electrician improver,i leave in London south east.
Is that any good.

Halifax is about the centre dot of the UK (West Yorkshire and is just a stones throw from Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield area.)

There is no legal issue with requesting a female employee only if you target a specific customer or customer base as a company, this could be in areas like hostels for abused women, female psychiatric wards etc where a male presence could be harmful or even just personel customer preference so don't worry about specifying you require a female Electrician. Where the issue arises is if you advertise a position for an Electrician for the general purpose electrical work where gender wouldn't be classed as an issue then you can breach laws regarding discrimination if you decline male interest purely on gender.
All you need to do when advertising for the position is express that due a clients preference or you target workbase you have a position available for a female electrician. This is fine as other companies do advertise like this like Taxi firms who have customers who prefer female drivers etc.. but setting up a company of all female staff is when things become tricky if your doing what is regarded as work that is gender friendly.
Also be careful that there is no discount based on gender, Sheila's Wheels car insurance were found in breach of EU discrimination laws when they gave a better insurance deal to females based purely on gender although I doubt this will effect your position here as I assume you will be charging the same fee to customers regardless of there request for a specific gender.

Good luck on you search, as an industry, we do have a shortage of females and there is a preferencial customer base out there for anyone that can offer a female Electrician as an option.

I know mate but I just think if someone wants a certain thing in life and is willing to pay for that then they should be allowed to do it without it raising eyebrows.
Ps also Andy I wasn't including you as I know you had your sensitive valve switched off many years ago :):)

Bit expansive! Prostitution? A hit man? Buy a nuclear bomb? :)

The first 2 sound ok Steve , but think you got a bit daft with the 3rd. :D
