hi, after much research this was the only forum i coud find that might be of some use.

a friend of mine is getting invloved in a homeswap and is uncertain to proceed or not because the man she is going to maybe swap homes with might be tampering with the electric key metre and shes worried about 1. safety and 2. will she get into trouble when she moves in because of something the prior tenant has been doing?

she does not use key metres so will be requesting it changed over to a normal metre and set up direct debit facilitys for the bill but it concerns her than when the metre man comes to change the metre he might pick up that it was tampered with and shes worried they might blame her?

any metre men on here or revenue service men can advice please?

nope she wont get into trouble if she calls up the electricity company up as they will send someone out to take a reading and if it has been tampered with they will fix it back to normal ie replacing the gripple wire they put on the big fuses. if they can still be tied on

So just get her to call out the electricity supply company

Hello.

I also know someone who is also doing a home swap. The other person is bypassing the digital key meter and it's £120 in debit (£120 owed). That person has promised to pay the amount back into the meter before the move. What seems odd to me though is how the meter got to £120 in debt in the first place? As far as I was aware, it allows only £5 emergency credit, so how could it be showing -£120?
