a bond followed by easy fill and sanded down i find gives a "as good a finish as possible"

A bag of bonding and a bag of finish is all that's needed, better still though get a little bit of it from a plasterer. If its a lot of patching needing doing far better (and cheaper) to use a plasterer.

Polyfiller, fill and skim and all that stuff I find ain't really suiting to covering anything at depth.

its not so much the finish... so wont crack... definately held back etc... being a decorator i wooulf fill... re fill then line paper to pull back.... but im thinking of putting joint strip there.... as i know it holds it togeather

if its a black lime wall (as found in victorian/edwardian buildings)...then some PVA in water will "bind" the edges of the chase ...or you could find yourself following the chase all round the wall.....2 thin PVA coats..let the first one dry...then get a second PVA coat on then straight on with the filler...or whatever your using.....maybe a bond coat with a bit of river sand in it.......

Bucket n trowel????
Some of them rewire sorts need to tow a mixer with them :ciappa:.

Boydy

For 1 chase?

I wouldnt use a mixer unless I needed at least 5 buckets of bonding at a time.

1 man with a mixer can easily mix a couple tonnes in a day

(I know cause boss under ordered when we were helping build one of his houses)
