Hi

How does everyone go about filling in the walls where chases have been made for cable drops??

Apart from a painter/decorator :D - Say for a small job consisting of few additional sockets

Deep gap filler? Plaster mix?

Only way IMHO is to do it the way a plasterer does it,undercoat plaster followed by a skim of multifinish.......Not that hard with practice,(watch how a spread does it when you get the chance)....really professional and a finish ready to decorate.

Seconding that. Low ayer of bonding or browning if you can get it, then skim the top with a finish plaster. Multi murpose plaster or whatever it's called is rubbish don't use it (mind you someone on here uses it just to keep capping in place, Ive tried it and it works niceley.)

i must say that i always use bonding wait to its just setting then chamfer back the edges and over skim. * tip of the day - if you wont the bonding to go off a bit quicker use some dirty water in your mix.

better tip is buy the plaster board bonding adhesive and leave the bag open for a week or so.
sets solid in 20mins ,perfect for setting out boxes in hollow blocks.
always got a few bags "maturing" ready to go.
time is money.

Out of interest do any of you not fill chases? I got a full rewire on and I've said it doesn't include any making good and a plasterer will be needed when I'm done, obviously this is all reflected in my price. But I admit I'm no plasterer and it's not my trade, so best to pay someone who's doing it day in day out to get a better finish, as there will be a few switch drops.

Am I on my own with this? Do most of you add it into your estimate?

If it's the odd one I will do them myself

Just done a full rewire luckely the were small chases ,woman in the house was not impress that we had to chase , managed to peal the wall paper back chase patch and stick it back , it was an embossed wall paper she came in and asked how we'd got the socket there , was quite pleased with myself:D
