Looks like you and I are in the same boat Left a perfectly good and safe job, myself and my business partner have invested approx ÂŁ10,000 so far....... I'm feeling like physical violence is the way to go rather than speaking to these people on the phone. My MP had his solar array installed last week...... he obviously had the nod from the inside!

Gordon, you may not fancy doing installs for someone else but munrogrierson looking for MCS qualified installers. Would be a bit of experience whilst waiting to see what happens after December(thats if you are anywhere near him or his customers!

Good luck anyway!

Be very carefull that you get paid after each install, not at the end of the month, I speak from experience, some of these companies will have no revenue stream soon, and as an unsecured creditor you will have last dabs at any cash remaining, sorry to sound so cynical but its tough out there at the moment.

You & me (and probably others) i just like the way i finally got my mcs cert on Friday & on Monday i may as well throw it in the bin.

A little history about me, I am a self employed sparkie (with 17Ed) and have just done my PV training and working at height courses.
Was shocked to here about the new proposed Feed In Tariffs which has cocked up all my plans for my first install to get MCS.
I am going to install my first P.V. on my own property.
I have two mates who are going on thir courses but not till early December (to late!!)
so i'm looking for someone to help fit this first system. (14 panels new property easy stright roof install)
Only thing is I live in Derby
I would get the site fully scaffolded and do the electrical side of the job, just need help on fitting the panels on the roof.
I you or anyone else you may know could help please either PM or E-mail [email protected]

Guys have you heard yourselfs? - the FiTs have been "cut" not finished, or withdrawn. I dont know what you was expecting once you got MCS anyway? MCS isnt the fast train to the rich land, its the doorway to 18 hour days, paperwork, audit for this, audit for that.

FiTs will live again, and im happy about it - ok not with the way its been dropped on us - but at least it means there is still money in the pot and it will go further now.

Cheer up, sit tight and next year it will start all over again -

A very tired me.

feel sorry for u lads! u wont be able to get any kit! the suppliers want payment up front now! then u got to learn what forms do what with who! i rec u should go work for company rest of month to get idea! dont rush in now to do install it could cost u dear if forms dont get through to correct dept!it takes hours on this forum asking SENIOR members WHO ARE WORKING THERE NUTS OFF AT MO so wont be on here how what and where! if your in it now try it for a year! we will all know by then!

I hope you're right, Dansk. The FITs weren't withdrawn for >50kWp installations either but those cuts killed that side of the market too.

I know some people think that MCS is a ticket to guaranteed work and obviously the rest of us know different. However, I do feel that a lot of people that have invested in MCS accreditation will struggle to get a return on their investment.

The money that is left in the pot will go further - far further than Greg Barker anticipates, I would say. The potential market out there has shrunk to practically zero. Only a very sharp increase in energy bills will bring PV back from the brink.

Im trying to stay optimistic, ive run some figures on 21p and paying 8 or 9k for 4kwp and TBH it aint bad, 4Kwp systems are already coming through at sub 5K, so i feel its got a life, as i mentioned in another thread, PV has been out of reach for so many, maybe now when the cost reduces we will attract the next generation of customer who wants solar but couldnt afford 11 or 12K for 4kwp.

Im actualy looking forward to next year, ok its going to slow down/stop for a month or three, but it will come back im sure - yes the C rating thing is a hurdle - but we've all got through the MCS hurdle, so im sure we can over come a C ratign EPC (not sure how just yet but i bet it can be done)

Dont be so down beat about it, and try to look at the positives, make hay while the sun shines for now, and plan carefully for the next year, this is certainly going to clear out a few installers, and hopefully slow down the number of people who think solar PV is the key to the golden land.
