There was some life in this solar game before the FIT and there will be life after it. However, it was really tough getting work a few years back when only a few companies/individuals were installing so we were traveling country wide. Now, it will be nigh-on impossible to survive on solar alone it will be just another string to our bow.

I had my first PV job and was ready for MCS & part P exam for wednesday but after hearing monday about 12/12 deadline. I have now cancelled exams and was hoping to pay someone for MCS & certify it. i have all the back office paperwork and tests completed. I paid for a trainer to come to the site for 2 days to ensure i was confident. I have a million photos of the job and welcome anyone to inspect to install.

Can I pay someone to certify the job, to allow me a clean conscious for the customer before I completely exit? At least someone else will profit before 12/12. I'm ÂŁ3K lighter and had enough.

Hi New MCS Approved Installers,

I you fancy doing my install in North West London. 7panels on South and 7 on my west roof. You can have 1.5k fee for the install once all material/labor charges and fees are paid for.

lookng forward to a reply!

Just finished my Solar course 2-3weeks ago, Bought Test Kit and booked MCS made easy course with ECA and bought Pv Sol pro.

Now Canceled MCS made easy course and asked very kindly to supplier if the he would take test gear back and they said yes.

Outcome=
Couple Hundred lost not thousands
And a very frustrated me.

Was looking forward to this solar stuff. Found it very interesting and would have been a nice addition to my Electrical business. AND no i wasnt doing it for a get rich thing it was more like moving with the times.

Ill Sit on the fence now and see what happens next year. Busy enough as it is anyways.

Same for me, I've always had another interest and that's ticking over nicely, no pv work will bother me, but won't kill me. This deadline has brought forward my plans for another venture I had my eyes on, this week i instructed the website to be built, so will see what happens. Adapt and overcome is what I'm doing.

Rajeev, you just don't get it do you?!! I think the negotiating boot is well and truly on the other foot!!

I have had six requests this morning for an install before the deadline from the 'been sitting on the fence' brigade, one told me he has been offered a 2.7kw install using BP panels for ÂŁ12k and was ringing around before paying money, Rajeev face it you have missed the boat unless you want to pay a premium and actually find someone who can do it and can get stock, a big ask.

Hi Guys,

I was just trying to partner with a newly certified MCS installer to help him/her recover some of the MCS they had paid while paid the pre-annoncement labor rate for the install.

I would have arranged for the PV kit (while absorbing 15% extra VAT) that I have couple of suppliers ready to ship, local scaffolding, 1 x roofers and 2 x electricians for the day. Just needed a newly certified MCS installer to oversee the install and produce the paperwork (Similar to what some of Corgi guys do to produce the gas certificate!).

Anway found a local installer who can accomodate me. Thanks everyone!
