Hi.
Your forum has always been a valuable source of info when needed up till now. I've finally joined as I'm at a point where I may need to ask advice.
I've moved from the midlands to Leeds. I have been a rope access tech for the last 6 months, having been an arborist from college 10yrs prior.
The nature of rope access work means I'm working away almost constantly. This is proving hard for my partner with being in a new place where she knows no one. I've spoke to my employer and they are happy to have me work a shift on and a shift off (11 day shifts).
This is fine as I've already found tree companies that I can fill my shift breaks with. The thing is, I really enjoy electrical work. Before starting the rope access work, I put myself through college and gained the following electrical qualifications; City & Guilds 2330 Levels 2&3, 2382 17th Edition Regs and 2392 Inspection and testing with straight distinctions.
Now seems the perfect time to start swapping out the tree work for electrical. I have some job hours as I've been helping a friend on domestic jobs when I'm free. I also have some tickets; CSCS,ECS,MEWP,First Aid.
My plan was to start calling companies and sole traders around the local area and see if any will have me help out a couple of days a week at a very basic wage until I've proved my worth enough to get a steady enough position to start working on a NVQ.
Am I heading in the right direction? Any advise is greatfully received!
Giles.
