Hi guys,

Im looking at getting into fire alarms as another string to my bow and would like to know your opinions on a suitable course.

I have little experiance with commercial fa systems but a guy im working with knows them quite well so ill be picking his brains.

I am a qualified spark, how difficult is the fire alarm stuff compared to sparking or is it just a case of remembering more regs?

I am looking at a 3 day course with napit (my current scam) have any of you guys done it? If so how was it?

Cheers,
Tim

Edit: just to add that if anyone knows of a better course, let me know.

Hi Tim,

There are no official fire alarm courses, city and guilds etc. I did the Napit course and learnt a lot with regards to the code of practices. I have a team of sparks and we needed to do this to prove competence as we already have experience and knowledge. Once you know the regs it's the same as installing anything electrical really.

Cheers ben, thats just what i wanted to hear. Im sure ill be fine with the wiring and panel side of it, trying to fit more regs into my head is going to be the challenge though.

Tim
