Hello all,
what qualifications do you need to be able to do fire alarm inspections on
commercial and industrial property's??
ive done a lot of work on fire alarms in the past and since going self employed have been asked to do a few
6 monthly and annual checks according to Napit as I've done by 2394 and 2395 I'm aloud to do it and they have provided me with all the Certs ect.
but the thing I'm worried about is if something goes wrong it's on my head (to be honest I don't trust what Napit say)
sp dose anyone know of a a short cheap course to do?? (If there is such a thing) Cheers

You dont need any actual qualifications, what you need is to be classed as a competent person. Are you competent at working with fire alarms?. Do you fully understand and work to BS 5839. As you said if anything goes wrong with something you install or service then it's on your head. Yet if you have done everything to the standards then you will be ok. Just make sure you have good knowledge of the standards and fire alarms in general . Also insurances.

Kind regards

chris.

Meggaman has pointed out good FIA courses....but the problem comes in with electrical scams interfering with BAFE approvals....they should stick with electrical works and not get involved in fire installations. if you wish to enter the industry go through the FIA and add to your electrical approval with a BAFE reg.

What has C&G 2394/95 got to do with BS 5839?? Do those courses cover testing and inspection of fire alarm installations to BS 5839??

Tazz how much is involved with getting bafe approval?
its like any of the scams. But they go into the inspection with a fine tooth comb....usually 2 blokes do the inspection twice per year, one guy covers admin and testing, other covers design and installation..Admin guy checks records of testing, customer complaints, rectification of complaints, call out repairs etc...Whilst the installation inspector, chooses 2 jobs at random, and attends site with O&M drawings. His checks include battery calculations, loop calculations and as fitted drawings, checking cables are supported and fire proofed through walls.
