Our management company comprising five flats, of which I am the Secretary, had an electrician install a fire alarm system last October to satisfy the local authority. It was a wireless system and comprised various smoke detectors, sounders, break glass units etc. He was paid in full.
Our electrician explained that he would be sending the commissioning documents to Bristol City Council, who would stamp it and that he would provide us with a hard copy. To our dismay the council never actually received anything, though the electrician maintains that he had sent it by email and received a read receipt, indicating that it had been opened. We ourselves never received a hard copy.
I have recently been in communication with the electrician asking for a copy of the commissioning document. His response was to send me a one page commissioning certificate, which I forwarded to Bristol City Council, who deemed it insufficient. This certificate had no details of the system, results of any tests e.g sounder audibility checks etc.
I am a gas engineer myself, and do have some idea of the sort of content that an acceptable commissioning document should contain.
My question to any kind souls that are still reading this is, assuming the electrican is unable/unwilling to supply the full documentation, what should we do now ?
Kind regards
H
