Hi

Has anybody come across a 24V window push and pull device, i am doing a job where one has been fitted and i need to link it to the fire alarm panel but the panel only had voltage free contacts so i purchased a 24V PSU and used the contacts to connect the phase when alarm is activated but i noticed this then closed the window and the only way to open it was to reverse polarity but theres no way i can think off to get the panel to reverse polarity.

Does anybody know if im missing something simple or if the window push and pull devise needs its own control box or something ?

Thanks

Use a relay with the coil activated by the fire alarm panel if not already one in FA panel.

Taking that there is an existing switch controlling your window parrallel a cable from this through the relay contacts. When fire alarm activates windows will close.

Hello mate, just on a job now and we had an "AOV" panel, it had open and close on it??
Is your one for auto open or fireman open???
Justin

Thanks mate its only a small 2 zone panel from screwfix and they want it so when the alarm sounds it opens the window to vent the smoke but the panel only has voltage free contacts so i purchased a 24V PSU

The window should stay closed under fire conditions due to oxygen could feed the fire. The window should only open when the fire officer is happy that there is no fire, only smoke. Then the firemans overide switch is operated. I think this might be a building regulation that all windows close and fans shut down under fire.

As to reverse your polarity to the window you will need to fit a 4 pole relay so you can switch the + and - with a change over contact

Hi sparky dan ,you dont mention if you want the window to close again automatically after the fire condition has cleared or if this is to be done manually.? But if you want it to be totally automatic open on fire and close when it clears you will need to install an additional changeover relay dp switched from your volt free relay eg-- say on your dp relay you have terminals 1(common)2No and 3 Nc ,and 4(common)5No and 6Nc.your incomming supply from your psu would go onto +1,-4.2goes to your motor along with5. 3 and5 need to be linked as do 2 and 6 effectivly altering polarity when the fire relay de energises your relay. There would presumably be some kind of limit switches to stop the motor when it has closed/opened fully.(sorry probably not very well explained)
ps presumably your psu is dc?

Not all the time, a building I maintain has vents linked to the alarm panel that open in alarm conditions and fans that turn on.

This is the bit of relay logic to reverse your polarity to the window
