Im having an electrican fit a new CU soon, and at the same time I hope to have mains powered smoke dectors fitted. Looking at a few sites I have found what alarms need fitting and in what rooms etc.

As i know the electrican through family hes happy for me to route all the cabling etc to the desired locations, and he will wire everything up for me. So it will comply with regulation etc etc.

Im a little confused at to what wire to purchase some recommend fitting fire rated cable, but I have been told 3 core and earth is the better. and use 1.5mm. What your opinions with this?

Im planning on using Kidde KE1SFW, does anyone have any better recommnedations. Im not really after the 10yr warrenty ones thee 6yrs one is adaquate for me.

Also I was planning in interlinking the kitchen lounge and landing, but leaving bedrooms unlinked, is this okay with regulations

I do hope you are getting real technical advice and install done

Hi malcolm yes hes a full qualified electrican. with something as important as the CU you would be stupid to let Mr Bodge it near it. Trust me I should know the owner of my house was suppose to be a qualified electrican, and lets say theres stuff there i know is a no no. So im currently working at getting his bodgits corrected.

For example running a grey flat cable on an exterior well outside i know is a big no no but he done it.

I am by nature do a job once and do it right. Thanks for your replay

hi all its just a dometic property. So if i get a mix of 3core and 2 core, making sure the detectors that i want to link are using the 3core, and others just use the 2core. cheers. would save some money doing it that way too.

I assume I would have to create this as a ring circuit, I will ask that he connects it to a seperte MCB as i will get battery backup detectors.

not quite right. you feed the 1st detector from the CU in T/E, then from there daisy chain all the rest in 3core/E. no need for a ring.

you could just get a feed to each smoke and fit radio bases as well, I have this in my house and they interlink by radio waves and saves ripping all the floors up albeit the cost of materials is more.
