Discuss First edition of wiring regs 1882! in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net
Can remember the Butlins Chalets being wired the same.....left hand side neutral , right hand side live...and bare copper down the centre...and each charlet being tapped off in 15a singles with cloth coated rubber insulation......all were finally demolished in 1998....original install was 1941
Still wired like that till they were demolishedwell...that was a long time ago there tazz....
In the days of that first Reg's edition and well beyond, the electricians went to work in a suit and bowler and apprentices walked at least 3 paces behind the electrician. Gentlemen of the trades as they were known, such was the status of the electricians of the time!! ...lol They had to be among other things, competent at pipe bending and needed to be virtually a carpenter in their own right. Now you're virtually treated as semi skilled in the building game!! How times change, well in the UK anyway, ....elsewhere electricians are still respected as the senior trade!!
