Im going to quote on a massive industrial EICR.

The place in a metal stockist. Usual equipment. Cranes, fork lift chargers and cutting equipment. There is also offices and store rooms.

How should I work out a costing?
Is there a set rule per circuit in this type of premices that I should be baseing it on?

Also what percentage of installation needs to be tested, is it correct to test 100%

with all due respect, on a job of that size, you could catch a cold . it is always a good move on big industrial jobs to work 2 up. if you know a spark with industrial testing experience, it may be worth your while to get him involved and split the job between you.

Seems a tad too big for me and the apprentice.... Possibly best doing what you say.... Have to ring around...

Any pointers on costing per circuit?

£25 - £30, but problems arise if you have to wait around to be able to isolate/inspect parts of a working industrial installation. you may haqve to do some out of hours work. so many variables, it's difficult to price that way. you could price it on hourly rate with a loading for out of hours work.

You can forget 100%, you will not get it. The nearer the origin of the supply the less chance you’ll get.
What is the supply arrangement? Their own transformer or a hefty LV supply?

Shouldn't be that much of a problem. if all this industrial installation is, ...is a metal ''Stockist''!! It's not as if it has a manufacturing element to contend with!! Which is where the main problems would be, to get shut downs/stoppages etc, approved...

What we would call ''massive'' and what the OP is calling massive, could be two completely different assessments/meaning of the term!! lol!!

Possibly is small compared to what some of you guys do.

What about warehouse lighting? Obviously I cant throw a ladder up there. Do you usually quote in a cherry picker? Just looking for things I need to include in quote.

I'd quote for amount of time expected to take, may be a bit hard if youve not done something of that size before as you have nothing to go off. Depends on job too, are circuits labelled up? Previous report or certs available? You can spend hours looking for what circuits feed otherwise, 45mins looking for one, 30mins looking for another. Other things have been pointed out too, such as out of hours work required? Weekends? Can items be isolated when you require.

Factor in scissor lifts or cherry picker in if you need it yes

if your on about IR testing on those lamps...then its live conductors to earth on an ECR isn`t it...

I would allow for time I think it is going to take rather than per item, I would speak to the customer and ask about access and limitations first. On another note though, unless your well upto standard with this type of enviroment I would suggest you avoid the works and walk away, it is a different level of electrical installation from most others.

cherry picker brings it's own access problems, would buy/rent an aluminium tower, up and down in minutes, ooer missus.

Might be ok for a small empty unit bit wouldn't recommend it for anything else, its probably a lot higher than the tower can get, you have a better time on scissor lift too lol...

Wrong person??...

They may wish to limitate the lights if they are over 3M off the ground
I know its a bit different but thats what we alwyas have to do on the councils request for any of their work, schools libraries etc
