Hi there, first post that I’m hoping my totally novice terminology will make sense to people...

I had an envirovent silent 100ht installed but want to replace with a simpler silent 100s (that turned up today). I’ve removed the cover of the existing and notice the power cable has three cores - connected to the L, N and Ls points.

The replacement only has L and N, so the question is what do I connect where on the replacement, and what do I do with the remaining core?

The current setup is a separate wall switch inside the room with an isolator switch next to the extractor.

Not sure if I can upload photos from my phone - will do if it’s possible and needed?

Hope you can help!

Andy

Hi Andy - sounds like you now need Ls (live switched) and N (neutral) connected to the new fan that has no timer. The remaining L (permanent live) should be safely terminated in the fitting, as you'll need it if you ever want a timer fan in the future.

Looks like you new fan doesn’t have a timer module. This will make it run on after the light is switched off.

Post some photos up so we can have a look

Wow didn’t expect replies so quickly (many thanks). Wilko, are you saying that the existing core going into Ls needs to go in L on the new extractor and the N still goes into N on the new one? So I remove what is currently going into L and wrap up in tape and leave unconnected?

Andy5678, yes it doesn’t have a timer but has its own ‘light switch’ - ie the extractor won’t come on with the light but is independent.

Trying to figure out how to post pictures from my phone.... will do in a couple of mins if I can work it out.

Think I’m posting pictures now.... unconnected one is the new extractor, connected is existing.

NO, the unused live should be properly terminated into an insulated connection, not wrapped in tape.
Why the fan swap ? Looks like you've essentially bought the same fan except not timed

Andy78, I want to be in control of when it is on so I don’t need a timer. It’s in a utility room so would have it on when drying clothes. The original has a humidistat also but has only come on once, not what I was expecting. I’d rather switch the thing on and leave it so the room isn’t a muggy space when I come back.

Forgive me, what’s an insulated connection - is it possible to do with the replacement?

Could have just removed the live, terminated correctly and looped the SL in your current fan and would’ve given the desired effects. Rather than buying a new fan :)
