appologies as this is a slightly dumb question.
I hadn't paid much attention to FiT rates post mar3rd as we had no enquiries, however, tomorrow I have my first quote to do since feb (HEHAH!!!)

can I clarify, FiT rate is 21p until July providing EPC D or better, post July it drops to 16p

is that about the nub of it?

Moggy, don't forget that the PV can add to the EPC rating if needed to reach band D, so get your DEA to calculate the EPC rating, but not to register the EPC until you have installed the PV, then register the EPC, then you have the EPC certificate to hand in with your FIT forms.
I hope this helps.

Yes, someone I know has EPC energy efficiency band E (48pts) and CO2 band E (42pts).

The original survey recommended 2.5kWp PV and such an installation was projected to bump up the ratings to C (70pts) and CO2 band D (58)

Solar hot water instead of PV was estimated to change the ratings to D (60) and E (50).

This is a property in an outlying village with no mains gas supply.
Given the recommendations in the EPC survey (dated Feb-2011 when they bought the house) there may be quite a lot of people out there without gas, who actually have a recommendation for solar PV to be installed.
All it might take would be a few leaflet drops in non-gas-supplied areas to emphasise the additional benefits to such properties from PV. :)

We're rural, lots of off gas areas and struggling to get any of them up to d rating unless they've got cavity walls and even then it's a struggle without a newish boiler. My neighbour is a prime example - 60's bungalow, full cavity & loft, full heating controls & double glazing, oil boiler 5 years old - bottom of D.

It's decimated our work and anyone thinking that a few leaflets through a few doors in off gas areas is an opportunity possibly doesn't really understand the difficulties of energy efficiency in rural areas.

Of our current surveys, one is a house built 12 years ago, one has natural gas and one has an air source heat pump. We've had to knock back the rest because they can't achieve the D rating.

Maybe it depends which part of the country.
Within a few miles of me (Cambridgeshire) are large numbers of relatively modern properties very similar to the one I mentioned earlier. They lack gas, but aren't particularly old and can meet EPC D relatively easily (simply installing solar PV should do the trick); the houses have been built in the last 20years or less, to cope with the ever-expanding population of ordinary workers of Cambridge who can no longer afford to buy houses in the town due to extremely high prices (prices as high as many parts of London, but without the wages).

The house I spoke of earlier is soon likely to be fitted with solar. Apparently most of the local residents think that solar is a gimmick, so virtually no nearby houses have it. I would not be surprised to see things start changing once the house has panels and the neighbours get curious and find that - rather than being a gimmick - that it's a very worthwhile investment (especially if you have no gas) and that their own properties can meet the EPC requirements.

That's very true, it's a nightmare where we are because the planners have been restricted for the last 20 years to around 500 new builds per local authority. It does just take one brave homeowner to put a system in and prove it works for the rest to do the sheep impression.

Another reason to beat the July 1st deadline is that the annual increase due to inflation will follow the CPI rather than the RPI, which is likely to be a lower amount.

I'm blindly hoping that the "disappointing" installation figures in April will lead to the FITs remaining at 21p - I'm not holding my breath though.

That's not quite been decided yet. Or at least if DECC have decided they haven't told anyone.

Ted, when is the last date the gov't have to publish their response to the consultation - it can't be far away....

For changes to come in from 1st July they need to be set before parliament a clear 40 days earlier with allowance for any period more than 3 days when either House is not sitting.

I make that May 17th or thereabouts allowing for the Whitsun recess. I could, like Theresa May, be out by a day.
