Hi

I've just had an interesting question from a potential customer and although I think I know the answer, I just wanted some second opinions.

Basically, if a customer goes to his electricity supplier for the FIT payments, are there going to be any issues if he wanted to change supplier of electricity? Can he stay with his current supplier for FIT, but move to a different supplier for electricity?

Indeed, can he go to any supplier for FIT payments, not just his normal supplier?

Thanks

Newb

This may be wrong but the way i understand it is that it is best to apply for the fits with your current supplier and then change in a few months if you want to go else where , well that is what one of our costumers have just been advised by SSE after having major issues with gritish bas ?

Did you cark your par in the par cark ? :bomb2:

As far as I understand it, the fit is a totally separate contract and you can apply to any of the energy companies offering fits, so I theory yes your customer should be able to swap suppliers with no problems, in deed I always tell mine they can apply for fits with any of them and try to steer them towards eon as they have the best customer service as reported by others on here.

This is quite true , they do seem to be the best !
We just say that it is probably less complicated to register at first with their current supplier , having said that British gas have in the past mentioned that if you are not their customer you can as good as go swing if you want to register with them for fits !
And yes that was after the normal two and a half hour wait on a 0845 number !

FiTs is a separate contract.

The big 7 : British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, Npower, Scottish and Southern Energy (encompassing Scottish Hydro, SWALEC, Southern Electric & Atlantic), Scottish Power, Utility Warehouse

If your electricity provide is one of the big 7, and you want them to pay your FiT, they HAVE TO.

If they are not one of the big 7, they may have opted in to pay FiT

If you are not with one of the big 7, the big 7 have to take you and pay your FiT if you ask them to

OPTIONALLY, some of the big 7 will take you even if you are not with them, and are with one of the other big 7, there is then NO obligation on their part to do so.

With one excepction (e-On) I am not aware which of the big 7 will do that, having approached nPower and British Gas, they both turned away non customers.

The most welcoming, is e-On, at the moment their doors are open, they are curteous, efficient, obliging, and even will help customers correct their forms if they filled them in wrong!

We always take e-On forms along to the customer with their handover pack - 2 copies, the first I go through with them explaining the questions, and filling it in with them - especially getting them to find their MPAN number. the second copy I leave with them to do themselves.

We always recommend Eon although we haven't had the same good service that the rest of you have had. I've been waiting since June for confirmation of my contract with them for a rented house we have and a lot of our customers have had problems with them too. I recommend recorded delivery for the application as standard.

My logic is that it's hard enough to get your electricity switched if you change supplier without having to switch Fit supplier all the time too. At least with Eon you can leave your Fit permanently with them and forget about it.

Worth looking at Good Energy as a FIT payment company. Their ethos is 100% about renewables so we find they tend to be more helpful.
