This thread will probably cause outrage but here goes.. Changes a DB a year ago from my 89 year old gran, She is proud of here house and spent a load on it recently doing it up..

Well I say loads... The electrics aint been touched in aged and well to be fair needed a test..

Giving she lives a while away I am ashamed I dont visit very often.. Well she called as her lights had fused after trying to poke around in the fuseboard trying to change a 3036 she gave in and called an emergency electrician who charged her £120 for out of hours call out but did not refuse as they say that the house needed a rewire..

So i take the time off go up and see her, IR test and then ZE, rejuice and ZS however the board if on its last legs and seen better days.. After a chat I agree to fit a new RCD board but she is stuborn about running cables to install bonds due to having to lift freshly laid wooden flooring.. She would rather leave whats there there instead of lifting flooring..

So i crack on fit board...

Call me whatever you want but I know for a fact at 89 year old the system is by far safer to my gran now then it was..

Would I do it again.. Depends on the circumstances.............

So what are the sizes of the existing main bonding conductors, ...or are you saying there aren't any?? What's the supply earthing system TN-S or TNC-S (PME)

Wireless main bonding that's the way to go m8 LoL

Joking apart yes you are right it will be safer then before you changed the board, but it will not be what the courts will say if something happens because you didn't bring it up to standard before changing the board sorry m8

still waiting to see if there is any bonding there. also, is it possible to run bonding cable/s outside, or to a nearer bit of pipework, saving major disruption, on the basis that anything is better than nowt.

Well I have to agree yes it will make it a 100 times safer than it was before funny enough I have asked the same question up hear ie some old biddy gets a twin RCD fitted but water and gas not earthed although I must admit I see 6mm so I would not kick up a stink about it and when a lamp trips the circuit its a comfort that she can reset it other than getting the fusewire out

As is stands no main bond at all.. Well not to the origin anyhow. There is a rad on the other side of the DB to which I have been able to attach 10mm bond to and at boiler have connected together all the service pipes to which as the install is all copper then there is continuity..

Its a TNS with ZE @0.43
