Fitting bolt in fitting

Hi all I have an outdoor wall light which is bolted from behind. Then a decorative nut threaded on the front.


As I push the plate on the bolt goes through leaving nothing for the bolt to grab on to one side as the wall is hollow on the back.

Such an easy job turned annoying lol. Anyone have any tips before I throw the light

So you can't get the nut on?
Try holding the edge of the thread with a knife so it doesn't fall back.

Some duct tape on the back of the plate to stop the bolt moving back or just epoxy resin the bolt in place

Cheers I can’t believe the fiddle with this fitting. Wiring takes five mins and then I’ve been messing about with this poxy bolt which keeps disappearing as I got to bolt up . Blu tac may actually work well.

Just about bearable on a perfectly flat wall, but uneven surface or mortar line they're a royal pain in the backside. Yet another example of why designers should be made to fit stuff they design, before it goes into production.

Totally agree but we don’t always get to choose what client might like. If we did there would be soooo many rejected!

secure the bolt head with some tape or gorilla glue. it's supposed to be captive but relies on contact with the wall to stop it falling out.

I always have a double syringe of 5 minutes apoxy kicking about for stuff like that. You can usually get it from the pound shop rather than paying for the gorilla brand
