I have some light fittings to put up in a kitchen replacing the existing fluorescent lights. The new fittings are 3 light ceiling spotlights that come with a centre bracket the fitting fixes to and sits flush to the ceiling. The issue I have is that it is an old cottage with open beam ceilings and the exposed floor boards from the rooms above. Fixing to the floorboards means there is nowhere to take the cable into the fitting. Any ideas how to do this without butchering the fitting would be helpful. I have attached a picture of a similar fitting to see. Cheers

I thought about cutting a cable entry into the fitting just need to make sure it looks ok. With the fitting being metal would have to have to protect the entry hole with some grommet strip or similar.

So, not exactly mahogany, then...

Could you post a pic of the ceiling/beams/floorboards? I carried out a similar-sounding job recently on a pergola on an outside terrace.
