UK Fitting new ceramic hob

Hi, I’m after a bit of advice please, my ceramic hob has cracked so I’ve bought a new one with the intention of fitting it myself. The new hob has now arrived but it’s got a cable already fitted which has 4 wires, L1, L2, N and E.

The cable fitted to my old hob has only three wires, is it possible to fit the existing 3 wire cable to the new hob? The diagram inside the book for the new hob also shows three wires.

I have added some pictures, the first three are the existing hob and the rest are the new hob and booklet.

I’ve previously replaced plug sockets and light fittings myself, but if it’s a case of wiring the new hob into the wall then I’ll be leaving that to an electrician.

any help would be appreciated,

looking at that diagram for 2nd time, it would appear that both L1 and L2 should be connected to L, for use on 240V single phase. see also post #4. so it appears that both black and brown should be commoned to L supply.

In the 2-phase hobs that I've seen, there is usually a link pin when installed on a single phase connection.

Is the manual not clear? Strangely, this model is not listed on the Russell Hobbs site.

Probably says “recommended” to be installed by a qualified electrician.

Brown and black to live, blue to neutral. Green/yellow to earth.
Don’t shorten the cable, or cut off the crimps off the end of the conductors.

It’s more the crimps on the end. They give a better connection under screw terminals rather than multi strand flex.
The OP may not have the right tools to fit new crimps.
