hi 2 all,i,m upgrading an old rewirable fuse board to high integrity unit but all existing cables will probably be short,is it ok to just thru crimp them in new unit or do i have to terminate them to din rail and terminal connectors in a proper enclosure outside of new consumer unit ?
 
And with these ones, the purple one for example. are the "top" and "bottom" terminals common? So you could connect two ends of cable togerther with just this one connector block?

I would advise that if the cables are solid cores that you do not crimp them as crimps are designed for stranded cables

And why do you say that?? Use the correct butt crimp and a good crimping tool that deforms the cable core within the crimp, and you will have a permanent joint. It's totally down to the materials you use and the tool that you use!!
 
However i bought mine from a local tool shop...... always a bad idea, but was an impulse buy - just found it for £230 with 5 different crimp cartridges, which is what i have, for £230, from mytoolshed.co.uk
