I’m trying to replace and old crown with a new spotlight.

I understand one of the neutral is a ‘live switch’ due to the extractor fan.

On my first attempt with 2 x live in L, 2 x earths in E and 2 x blue in N - The fuse blew.

I then put the live switch in L and now the fuse isn’t blowing but the light itself doesn’t switch on.

Any ideas?

Basic, Just follow the wires and get your head around it.

If you can't do such a simple thing, get a spark in to sort it.

What's the extractor got to do with it?

Apart from getting the wiring correct, there is also now the possibility you've blown up the switch from the first attempt.

Or caused some danger.
The word 'attempt' sums it up, don't you think?
It all depends on whether you get a second chance or not.

The original rose has 4 connections. A permanent live, the switched live, neutral and earth.... you new fitting only has 3... you need another connector for the perm lives.
The switched live is blue, but should have a brown sleeve or tape on it to identify it as different to the blue neutral. it’s this switched live that goes to L of the fitting.

Thanks for that, really helped. Solved the issue and working.

as mentioned by Westward a link is the way forward, nothing wrong with that and the pull cord will then be the on off switch.
