Here's a brain teaser...

A Fixed Wire Electrical Test needs to be undertaken in accordance with the requirements of BS7671 and Guidance Note 3. The test is based on a square meterage floor area e.g. a High School of 12,000m2 requires a Periodic Test and Inspection. This work will need to be done during term time and between normal working hours 7.30am to 5.00pm.
What square meterage floor area would you expect a team of two test engineers to satisfactorily complete in 1 day on this site.
(Please provide calculations and rationale)

Marks out of 10 and NO copying.

what's the gradient of the floor? obviously they'll get more done if they're going down hill, rather than up hill.

So here is one back to follow GN3 correctly how are you going to do the dead testing of the installation during normal working hours without closing sections of the school as there is no power in the class rooms. Also how are you going to test the lighting/fixed wiring in occupied rooms or are you going to fill your test with limitations? To follow BS7671 and GN3 is ok but in this situation I would be concentrating more on what the electricity at work act 1989 says about restricting access whilst panels and equipment are tested and the requirements for live testing as a last resort. In a building that size there will be several sub distribution boards if you follow GN3 they will all have to be dead tested for insulation resistance at some point. You do the Risk assessment for that and see what you get!! The only option is out of hours if you want to test safely and properly.
