Fixing and wall chases

Hi all firstly thanks for your replies regarding elecsa assessment, now coming onto my main point i have 10 years experience as a sparky but in the army so i am after a few ideas about domestic installation.
When running in a channel I am going to use cable capping either metal or PVC but does anyone know different methods eg. flexi conduit etc?

I generally use 20MM round light gauge conduit, either fixed with a screw wall plus and washer or a 20MM cable clip. It's definitely the main method used over here in Northern Ireland, and it's pretty easy to work with if you need to move/add something at a latter date. Good luck doing that with capping!

ive recently been installing capping using the capping nails, their ok but ive been pre drilling the capping for the nails which is time consuming but stops it splitting like

why nail when the oval tube comes with the correct clips?????

Nail in the middle - merely testing CPC continuity

I agree about the capping nails - useless. I have found that nailing at angles over the oval tube is the best bet, then once you plaster over then remove the nails and skim. I am guessing ex RE then. I am on ressetlement aat the mo and going into the sparky self employed route. Give it a go and see what happens. Good luck mate.

if you have to use that cheap crap plastic capping, use nails out of cable clips. it don't split then. oinly drawback is you end up with boxes of cable clips with no nails in 'em.

Haven't bought much oval tube, but when I did, it certainly didn't come with any clips. What sort of clips are you talking about?

In neatly made chases, our guy's are using gripper type adhesive that seems to work fine, on heavy gauge PVC round conduit. Would imagine it would be the same for that crap oval stuff you use in the UK. How you manage to rewire that stuff is a mystery to me, even in Cyprus they only use standard round PVC conduit that always enter the accessory boxes and CUs etc...

Capping on clean new build walls only...it's rubbish for chases. IMO unearthed metal capping is a dangerous practice,all to easy to damage the cables behind when installing. Oval ok for single cable drops to switches etc.......for most drops use 20mm plastic,enter it a couple of mm into the box KO,proper job,cables can be pulled out again in the future.

I find pink Gripfill or dry wall adhesive is good for fixing conduit and capping in chases, capping nails only work in soft wall blocks and are generally a waste of time

Oval Conduit clips are these:

few brands, I have the Marshall Tuffex myself, but they're all the same really. Just make sure you get the correct size for the conduit!

the best thing I ever found to do with capping nails in my little experience in a domestic situation was to throw them in the bin (saved dropping them all on the floor) and revert to the good old screw and rawl plug!

I use clout nails & find that as long as the plastic isn't too cold it doesn't split very much - if at all, but even if it does have a small split here & there, what does it matter once it's been covered with plaster ? :8:
