Hi all, could thinks of a tidy title so there it is.

My QUESTION IS:-

Ive been in contact with the NICEIC who i will be trying to go with in the next couple of months. Theyve asked me to prepare two pieces of work for them one major one minor as you all probably know. im planing on putting a consumer unit into my parents house and maybe smoke detectors in mine or my brothers house. however when it comes to testing if the house fails for what ever reason would i then be responcible for putting them right while the inspector is there?

this is really niggling me now if someone could let me know where i stand that would be great cheers all

I read somewhere yesterday (on another post) that the 'good practice guide' have one on consumer unit replacement. just type good practice guide in google and find the pdf to download.
Remember after installing a replacement consumer unit a electrical installation certificate should be issued so codes 1 should of been done. There is a good flow chart on the pdf for various situations.

If I'm understanding your post properly, I would say that you should have done all your testing and completed the Electrical Installation Certificate before the NIC guy gets to you, so there's no chance of any surprises when he's there. He'll be lookng to confirm the test result that you've already recorded on the Cert. He'll ask you to re-do some of the tests to show similar results as on the cert. So, you need to have the jobs all done and certified - and so all faults/issues fixed before he gets to you.

Hope this helps, sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick!

No that sounds about right im going for my nic but im a little nervous as expected and want it to go as smoothly as possible so think ill do a job where i wont have to do much correction work before hand.
