Hi,
Curious if anyone knew what the exact rules n regs were regarding flexible cables straight into a fuse board. Is it not allowed, or not good practice? just out of interest more that anything.. Cheers

Flex is a cable

providing strain relief is there with clips or say a stuffing gland and its the correct size then no problem

my house is wired in yy cable , you can wire a house in flex if you like but it would cost a bit

Flex is fine stranded and the cores should be crimped with appropriate feral etc, if it meets all other cable calcs criteria then no problem in using flex ensuring its suitable glanded and movement of the flex wont put any forces onto the termination as applies to any cable.

If its standard pvc/pvc flex then yes, tables 4f3a and 4f3b give all the necessary to calculate their compliance it only when you start using specialised cable flexes that you will need to source info from the manufacturers guides as CCC may differ and consequently VD per amp/meter may alter and sourcing such info makes it impractical to do it sometimes.

Fair enough, thanks!

So does that mean we can't use Cat 6 cables for these new fangled 15kW showers then?? :D

You could also use Arctic Flex if you are "up north" with some of the cold weather we could be getter with all this global warming lol

i was once carrying out repairs following an inspection report by another contractor and one of the defects was flex feeding outside light connected in CU ???
dont know what the hell they were on about , seemed ok to me so completely ignored it lol.

Would need to be the blue one though as technically the Yellow is only rated for 110V (even though we all know it's the same blooming cable)

B&Q sell extension reels for 240v with yellow cable................couldn't believe it at first ........I mean yellow is 110v we all know that fgs?

I've got 2 of them now on the shop floor with a blue 240v 3-pin plug on them...........work that one out :innocent:
