Hi All

Could anybody recommend a good tool for stripping outer insulation of flex or a good method of doing it PLEASE.

I currently use wire cutters, but if done a bit hard can nick conductor sheathing and when not cut deep enough have to try and rip outer sheath off with pliers.

Many Thanks

Steve

For PVC, XLPE, FP200 etc sheath I use cable shears like these to score a ring around the sheath, then I flex it back and forth to weaken it, then it can be easily pulled off.
H07 is a bit more difficult because it's tougher; a lot of the guys at work use these, but apparently they're a bit 'Marmitey'.

I've not used them myself because i haven't had to strip long lengths (more than about 100mm) of H07, and they're ÂŁ46.95.

these are great for stripping cable [ElectriciansForums.net] Flex Wire Stipper

I was taught to strip cable in the RAF using this method, Hold a stanley knife in the palm of your hand and grip it with your 4 fingers, blade facing up, using left hand hold the cable, and place it across the blade where you wish to strip it to, apply light pressure with your right thumb onto the cable just enough to deeply score the insulation, and roll the cable with your thumb, if done correctly (and it takes a bit of practice) you will have scored it enough to be able to bend it and it will snap, pull it off the cores and the inner cores will be undamaged. Till you get the hang if it use a slightly used blade.

Cheers..........Howard
