Guys i have just got one of the Flexible Snake Scope Cameras from Maplin for use in looking under floors, into cavity walls, ceilings etc and seems to work ok ! it was ÂŁ39.99 now ÂŁ69.99 and plugs into usb port on laptop ! has 2 adjustable bright leds and can take pics/videos so ideal for some fault tracing and pirs etc might be of use to you as well !
Find it at Maplin : 1TB Seagate FreeAgent External Drive
Kung.

Seen one of these while i was in there a few weeks ago, however I'd prefer one that didn't have to be hooked up to a laptop, how long is the USB lead Kung?

Hi Echo
The usb lead is 2mtrs long and yes i did want the non laptop hook up they do the hand held one with a good sized lcd screen for about ÂŁ100 but i got the other one as this one you can take pics & vids so can transfer them on a dvd for storage with pir's etc very usefull .

Hi Nickblake
Nah mate thats the right way round ! when i got it a few weeks ago it was on special and now returned to normal price but keep an eye out as they will prob have it on special again ! or you could ask them they might know ! the other one (hand held with lcd screen) might be as well and agree they are great bits of kit ! and showed the mrs my tonsils as well :D plus the screen on the laptop is a good size to see pics etc and it fits on my step ladder top platform nice as well so result !

Bought the Maplin one about 6 - 8 months ago on a ÂŁ40 special offer not expecting it to produce the quality of pictures it does

Find the picture recording facility very useful for inspections, fault finding and drawing cables in hard to get places

I borrowed a Milwalkee one from a hire shop and thought it was a great piece of kit apart from the screen size but couldn't justify the cost to purchase one but the Maplin one ticks all the boxes for a fraction of the price with some extra facilities

Agreed ! although i havent used the Milwalkee one but im well happy with mine :)

milwakee does have its limitations one of the bigest problems is knowing which way up your looking at ,screen does tend to be small but still very use full the week after i bought it i saw the ones in maplin argghh typical eh

I did want a thermal imaging camera but it will be a few yrs before i can afford one of them !

I have a similar wish list:):)

They look like a really good idea till u see the price and the cheapest one is never the one you really want

I decided to buy myself one of these after we found chewed cable under floors - by hand, because we couldn't lift more boards with taking up a ton more carpet. Couldn't convinced owner that more investigation needed ... so I thought a nice picture would telll the story.

I thought about the usb version, but don't fancy carting a laptop around. I looked at SeeSnake, and found similar looking products that have everything in a single unit - probe, camera, screen, microSD card, etc - even wireless connection so you can take screen off unit giving you the length of you are on top of 1 metre probe length. If you check out ebay you'll find a lot of these, all around ÂŁ150-180 mark - but marked as from China. I ordered one - had to pay DHL for the VAT - but it has never worked properly - picture is on-off all the time as you move probe.

I'm going through long process of getting a replacement - will let you know if I get one that works! (Otherwise it may be Maplin after all....)

BTW: anyone know how to stop getting logged off forum after only 10 mins or so? Can't see anything in Settings.

Nah me neither buddy its the same as last website regarding logging off ! as for your cam hope they sort it for you as they work well and really handy ! i use my samsung netbook that is small anyway and light so no probs also customer can see the findings live ! handy as they know your not just trying to get more work from them.

Thanks Kung - will let you know how I get on ... btw, trying out my first NICEIC 'event' in October - at Madejski. More than a bit surprised when I booked it that it's a morning event - like I've got nothing better to do on a weekday morning.

good to know it`s decent, thanks kung, i have a 3mtr long usb extension lead so i will be able to get through plenty of area. going to pop into the local maplins tomorrow and see when it`s back on offer
