It's a copy of the Maplins/CPC one. Ok for light use, easily smashed if dropped. Think it's origin is Duratool - CPC do them for about 100. I bought mine from Maplins on offer at £75 but it found me a way to a hotel cellar - well worth it if you pass cables in old buildings...

I've had weeks of problems with the one on eBay. I ordered mine through a UK-based seller, thinking it was coming from the UK, but it comes from China like all the others listed there. The first unit I got cost £150 and didn't work - I'm still waiting for a replacement several weeks later - it's on its way from China. When I ordered from eBay I had not seen the Maplin one, otherwise I would have bought from there without hesitation. Even if it's exactly the same unit at least it will have local support from reputable company.

I've always taped my mobile phone to the end of a wire coat hanger and put it on video. Works if enough space.

(Off topic: try this it's great: tie your mobile to a kite, set the video running send it up and you get some great shots!)

OK. Back to the electrical world.

Finally - got a unit that works! Snapped this - located where the ring cable heads upstairs by putting probe in the 2cm gap between ceiing and top of kitchen units - would have taken ages to find otherwise.
