Anybody had any experience installing floor box's in floorboards?

Done some before in an office environment in a suspended floor system, which was no problem. Been to look at a job at an old office building, with some desks in the middle of the room. There looking to move all the sockets/data for the computers into the middle to stop it being a trip hazard with extension leads round the sides.
Just wondering on the issues I might have installing floor box's in florrboards, like a joists in the way and then might make the floor box's untidy and out of sync.

Thinking of doing dado trunking instead fixed to the floor, my idea is it will look more neat and tidy and not be a hassle of trying to jigsaw the floorboards and could weaken surrounding boards.

Any thoughts on this please?

Cheers

although pvc dado may look quite "tidy" ;-) , i'd almost certainly be using metal cased fittings for anything on the floor in a commercial environment , the cleaners will destroy anything plastic.
shouldnt be a problem with regards to weakening the floor as most joists are only 15" apart and floor boxes are designed to be stood on anyway.

I've just had the same sort of job. The joiners on site ran solid oak floor boards down the middle of the office on top off the old floorboards and did the cut outs. So all I had to do was screw the back boxes to that. It looked pretty good after they had varnished them and carpeted around it.

They install fine. A perfect fit lengthways between joists. Just take out one section of board between joists and a notch out of each board on either side of the removed piece. Snug as a bug in a rug! :)

[ElectriciansForums.net] Floor Box's Installed in FloorboardsAs its in a office i dont think metal cased fittings would look appealing. There's 4 desks in total and I reckon these can be set back of each other to allow space in the middle to save cleaners smashing them up. Power poles are a good idea but the cost is a killer, been told another 2 are quoting aswell so hoping to find the best solution, cost and appealing.
Going to price up both see what is cost effective, been told by the client one of the other quotes may be going for floor boxes.

On another brain stormer was looking to extend the ring from the existing dado trunking but getting past the beast of skirting board to the floor void looks a right pain, must be about 2 foot skirting. Thought about using a Fein cutter to cut off the end of the skirting to run a bit of trunking? (added pic)

20mm white conduit drop out of the trunking and set round the skirting board into the floor

If the OP is after appearence then I think it's only what the customer can see that he is concerned about, and the part of this that the customer can see isn't metal clad, it's plastic.

By your definition any switch and socket that is buried in masonry would be metal clad by virtue of the fact that the KO box is metal lol!

This box is metal recessed, plastic face.

It's not my definition of anything, the whole of this unit that you said wasn't metal clad is metal. Only the decorative rim and lid aren't!! The actual box, the socket outlet and other plates are also all metal!! That's all i was saying!!
