Hi all,
It just popped into my head about bathroom pull cord switches, do they ever have flush mounting boxes, every one I have seen has been surface mounted, and also, why are shower pull cords cut shorter, which I see in most places?

A properly installed good quality dry lining box on a 12.5mm Plasterboard Ceiling is fine in my opinion. The cord would be snapped long before any damage could be done to the ceiling
unless you got one them .

I can't see the point in making a shower pull switch flush really, it is what it is.
why not mount in attic on some scrap wood left over by builders, say 4" above ceiling, then a 1/8" hole in ceiling for the string. totally discreet switch.

Most houses here are from 350-450 spacings, can't recall ever seeing 600. Then you also have the wall about 10-15mm away for more support...unless it's gonna be installed in the middle of the bathroom, which I can't say I've ever come across.

You are also kind of putting a lot of faith,in the board fixings, which unlike the spacing of rafters, cannot be known.

I have seen lads drop a piece of 10mm ply,between the rafters,and Instastik it,in position,with a foam adhesive gun,the hole can be cut after a short while,with a padsaw,and made a solid job.

I think Tel's idea, was a good one,and i can only improve on it,by suggesting, fitting a pull switch under the floorboards, with the string exiting through a tiny hole...then put a helium balloon on the end :)

...In fact...it's how i will do it,from now on...
