Discuss flyers in the Business Related area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have just been to the printers today to order some flyers. Gonna try and saturate my local area and hope some work comes in from it.
Think I got quite a good deal. 5000 A6 double sided full colour glossy postcards, with free design for £99.
Good job my new hobby is jogging on an evening.

It might be worth trying TMS who are one of the forum sponsors.

Marvo I think that was a bit unfair to remove the name/link of the printer I only commented on them because I got good service and appreciated it. I would also state for the record I did not received nor would I accept any incentive from them I just felt it was the right thing to do. I hope this mail will not be edited

Hi Oldtimer, I wasn't suspecting you were advertising for profit and the edit wasn't a personal thing, I didn't even remove the name of the company, only the embedded link. In return for sponsors making a financial contribution to the board and keeping it free for all members we just try to avoid direct hotlinks to their competitors websites as a courtesy.

Sounds like censorship to me.

Members can only recommend services from site sponsors, what happened to free thinking and freedom of speech???

I tried that line once or twice in the past and got told off.

It is censorship and shows the child like mentality of the forum owner.

1. Did I say that 'Members can only recommend services from site sponsors'?
2. Did I remove a recommendation of a company who isn't a site sponsor or the name of the company?
3......or did I just remove a direct URL to a forum sponsors competitors website??

It's Friday evening and it's been a long week so I'll save you reading through the thread and tell you the correct answer is '3' ;-)

We're not in playschool now sunshine, I'll thank you not to treat me like a child!

Dress it up how you like, it's still censorship. Stopping a member linking to a companies website from whom they have received a good service and for the benefit of other members simply to keep the owners pockets nice and fat makes jest at calling this site a "discussion forum"

Going on past experience, my comments will no doubt now be removed as I dare to offer a smattering of resistance to the management juggernaut but hey ho.

i've used local town council newsletter in past, about £17 for 1/8th page black and white and best of all they stick it through about 5000 doors for you!! and got a few jobs one about two years after last did it

And I'll thank you not to treat me like an idiot. Sherlock, you've got 10 posts on the board and 8 of them are complaints or digs at the board itself, the owner, the Mods or the Admin, I'm guessing this is the smattering of resistance you talk about.

I'm off to find another board to use, this one appears to be completely neglected by the owners.

Take care.

You obviously have nothing to contribute so...

Take Care.

As Marv has stated, there is no problem recommending someone who you have had good service from, but please do not post hotlinks.

No one is forced to use this forum.

Sponsors are here to help towards the cost of maintaining forums, and not just this one. Most forums exist purely from sponsorship, which makes these available for anyone to use FREE OF CHARGE, which some people seem to forget.

If any member has any issues, my PM box is always open.

I take that back...the design came back horrific so i am going to design my own and use the company oldtimer recommended.

I won't be using the forum sponsor as the website linked to by mods does not even work.....it's a site in progress link.
Not really very useful removing a link that works to a perfectly good service, and replacing it with a link that doesnt work with no contact details whatsoever.

First time I have heard of this type on censorship on the forum. Are there any clear rules on what can and cannot be linked to ? I have seen the rules on advertising but those do not seem to apply in this situation.

I read recently that of say 1000 flyers (or letters, emails etc..) you may send out, if 1-2% of people actually read them then that would be a good result (so 10-20 people) and of them a further 1-2% may do something with the information (so 1-2 people). That's a lot of effort for quite small return. They say to keep really good records of where your work comes from and then you will know the best methods to use. As mentioned above, word of mouth is the best recomendation.....

Reading things about flyers works 2 ways one is a not much good why bother or you as you say word of mouth only problem is people need to find you first plus you have to do your own feedback I pick an area that I think I will get a response plus its like planting seeds you post them then may not get a bite until 2 months or you get a call the following day hence building up a reputation then getting word of mouth.

You also need to think of what your selling, me electrical/intruder repairs & modifications once you do that you spend a bit of time on the flyer design then its get out their and post them I bought 5000 3 years ago I have 2500 left and cannot remember the last time I posted some thing is the attitude nowadays is that people can tend to be lazy ie pay a middle man and the money will flow in tosh Rated People and Service Magic do this and for me it does not pay
